Jocelynn's Run Indoor Tri

Did my first indoor triathlon. It was held at the New York Sports Club in West Hartford. I was the only one in my time slot. 8:10 on Sunday morning. I swam for 15 minutes. The pool seemed short of 25 yards, more like 20. They blew a horn with two minutes to go, and then at the end of 15 minutes. I was credited with 30 laps. I had thought I was on 34 when the horn went off, but maybe I miscounted. I swam easy, taking a long pushoff at each end. I was happy with my swimming for not having swum much this winter.

They give you 10 minutes to go upstairs to where they had the bikes reserved. They said people had been having toruble making the bike the day before, so I wore my tri suit instead of a bathing suit, so all I had to do was dry off, put my socks and sneakers on, and shirt and walk up to the bikes.

The bike was 30 minutes. I cranked the tension up just enough so i didn't feel like my legs were spinning wildly. I finished with 7.25 miles. I had wanted to average 15 mph, but my most comfortable fast pace was just below it. I learned later that I might have gone farther if I hadn't cranked the tension up. My highest heart rate during the bike was 134.

Five minute break before the run, allowed me to refill my water bottle and do a few stretches. My goal for the run was to got 3.2 miles in 30 minutes for a sub 30:00 minute 5K. Not having run much, I did not want to overtax myself. I set the initial pace at 6.0 or a 10:00 minute mile, then after a mile, up the speed to 6.3 or a 9:30 mile. After two miles my heart rate was 160. The last mile was hard -- my lack of run training showing -- but I hit my mark, coming in at 3.25. My ending heart rate was 170.

I haven't seen the final results yet, but I was happy with my performance and enjoyed the triathlon. I would definately do it again. I think it is a good way to measure fitness. I wish Cornerstone had more bikes. They only have one. If I knew I had a bike waiting for me, it would be fun to swim and then go right to the bike. As it is when I do practice tris, I have to bike, run (if one of the the three treadmills is open, and then swim after.

It was nice to do an event again. This was my first "race" since the end of October. My next will likely be a 5K toward theend of march. I need to run more, but with all the snow on the side of the roads, it is too dangerous to run outside.

Hopefully, the result of the indoor tri will be posted sometime. I haven't seen anything yet.

2 Miles

Hoping that I have turned a corner against y cold, after skipping spin class last night, this afternoon I ran 2 miles very easily wih a heart rate of 132-136. No shortness of breath. Legs felt okay. Unless I relapse, I should be good to go on Sunday.

Battling Cold/Pushups

Battling this cold hard. If I win, it passes and I feel better, If I lose, it gets into my chest and I will be down and out at least another 2-3 weeks, if not more.

Did not want to risk running, but did do my pushups:

20-20-22-22-18-18-50. I was trying not to cheat on the pushups.

60 Pushups/Cold

Did 60 pushups when I came home tonight, rather than doing the 20-20-22-22-18-18, then 60 plus.

It was Valentine's Day and I had to make dinner so there was no time.

While i did the 60 successfully, the last 10 were ore like semi-pushups.

No way will i be able to do 100 on my next outing. I will try though, then i will likely go back halfway through the program and try to do the best slow pushups I can with perfect form and make my go at it that way with the realization it will not be a one or two week program. It will likely take me awhile longer.

No aerobic activity. I have been battling a cold, as well as some knee pain and hope I will be recovered by Sunday's indoor tri.

56 Pushups/CrossFit Bike

Did 18, 18, 22, 20, 16, 16, then when I was suppossed to do 16, I kept going and did 56. I need to tape my next long attempt to analyse the pushups to make certain I am not cheating too much, not going completely parallell.

Later I did a slow perfect 30.

This evening I did a Cross Fir Endurance Bike. 5 X 1 minute all out, 2 minutes rest with a five minute easy break in between before doing it all again. Total ride was 45 minutes.

50 Pushups/Spin Class

I made it to 50.

This evening before spin class I did 16-16-22-22-16 and then while I was only suppossed to do 16 next i was going so well, I just kept on going until I banged out 50. I was so pleased I stoppedx. I could have groaned out one or two more.

Did spin class for 1 hour.

Pushup Failure/Cross Fit Bike

Start of Week 7 - last week of program.

14-20-19-20, then instead of 50, I only managed 38. Waited again for another 15 minutes and banged out 47. Still not 50. I had Lauren film me. Form not great, but not as bad as I thought.

Made final attempt, did 42.

So next time, I will drop back and do Week 6 workout 3, which is

16-16-22-22-16-16-48 plus

Earlier, I went to gym to run, undressed only to discover I left my sneakers at home.

So later I did a cross fit endurance bike. While setting it up, I failed to secure it properly and wiped out shortly after clipping in. Big slow motion fall, which I controlled without injury. The good news was I came unclipped with both shoes, including the left one which is way tighter than the right and I always unclip that one second.

For my bike, I went 30 seconds all out with 20 seconds recovery X 12 which is basically a 10 minute workout minus not counting warmup and cooldown. Got nice and sweaty.

Cross Fit Bike

Did a crossfit endurance workout, which was do 9 minutes flat out.

After warming up, I rode 2.6 miles on the trainer in 9 minutes, then cooled down.

49 Pushups

16-16-22-22-16-16-49 (I only had to do 48 so horray for me. I might have been able to do 50 if I had focused on that as a milestone. This was the easiest number for me to hit in a while, although I was still struggling at the end. I have hope for next week's goals of 50, 55 and 60.

Knee pain

I have been having some bilateral knee pain which I am attributing to standing up while cycling. I am going to hold off on standing on my Rides video and leave it to just the spin class and see if it improves.

Spin Class

Am enjoying the class.

Pushups

14-14-18-18-14-14-44

Just barely made it again. Each time the last four seem impossible. Just keep going. I couldn't have done 45.

Ride

Did the 54 Minute Southern Cal ride. Quite a workout. The standing up parts are very hard.
