3 Mile Bike/500 Yard Swim

Rode 3 Miles on hybrid, then got a call. Went swimming with Zoey in the evening, then swam an easy 500 yards.

2 Mile Ride

rode two miles on hybrid in the wind. Excruciatingly slow.

Anyway, I'm starting to think my leg problem is a low grade hamstring strain. I'm not certain about it and I'm not certain what the best course is. Rest or run until I feel the strain.

Bike/Lift/Swim

Rode the bike at the gymn for 15 minutes, then lifted some weights, still easy, rode another ten, than swam for 15 minutes. Leg is better today. I need to do some study to figure out what it could be.

Manchester Road Race




Ran the Manchester Road Race with Chevaughn. There were over 14,000 runners. It took us 3:30 before we could even take our first step, and six minutes before we crossed the staring line. Our net time was 59:45 for the 4.78 mile course. I was way overdressed, which was great for the cold damp weather, but bed once we started running. The second mile was all uphill, and my leg started bothering me -- same deal, it just felt heavy under the right knee.

But I made it. We only walked briefly toward the top of the hill, which helped my leg, and then we were back running.

My leg is pretty sore and stiff tonight, but no pain.

3 Mile Run/1 mile Swim

Ran three miles areound the circle at work before work this morning. Chilly out, but I was dressed warmly. I ran slow and again at two miles I could feel the weakness under my left knee. Still it felt great to run.

At one point during the day I did have that sudden sharp pain on the outside of my right knee. I am convinced it is the so-called IT band from my reading. The right leg also still feels a little weak through the day. I think some strength training is in order.

At night I swam for 40 minutes, not counting laps so I credited myself with a mile, which is about how long it takes me to swim when I am swimming slow to easy.

Freedom Run 5K

Ran the 5K in 29:52 -- a 9:37 mile pace. I had only a vague feeling of tiredness in my right leg, but I had no gas. It was rainy. I ran in my grey hoodie. The last part of the course was uphill and I had no kick at the end.

It was good to get out, and good that I could run without injury or pain, but I was definately not properly conditioned.

I need to get back to three runs a week, a tempo, speed and long run.

3 Mile Run

Ran three miles at the track tonight with only a mild ache that came on after the second mile. Here are my splits:

2:21, 216, 214, 213,(909) 219, 216, 215, 222 (913), 220, 224, (deliberately slowed not to antagonize leg) 234, 235 (9:54)

Total is 28:16 without any sprinting.

I did feel a liuttle pain later when I went up stairs.

Overall a good showing, and I am hopeful to run next in the 5K on Saturday.

Swim

Swam 1000 yards, including a 525 yard sprint. There is a triathlon in January that is indoors. You swim for 10 minutes, ride the bike for 30, then run the treadmill for 20. You accumulate scores based on distance. I wanted to see how many laps I could do in 10 minutes. the answer was 21. It would have placed me 15 out of 21.

Run

Did my neighborhood run and came in under 24 minutes, running easy. After a mile and a half, I started feeling it again, but if I didn't press too hard, it stayed in the backgound. I think if I tried to run fast it would hurt. Toward the end of the run, my leg started hurting when I ran uphill. After I was done, I got one sharp tweak near the knecao and then it went away.

I will have to make some serious progress if I hope to do a 5K a week from Saturday with any kind of speed.

Rode 12 miles at work on my road bike. Took 1 hour.

My knees felt tired latr.

After work I swam 1250 yards.
